The End Table

For a while now I have been looking for an end table that would fit in our tiny space. The space is tiny because my husband refuses to give up his big ugly 1992 blue recliner (if you were here watching me type this you would have seen me shudder just now) The chair is awful, but it's HIS chair. I'm still trying to convince him that there are alternatives. So, because of his giant chair, we have a very narrow space in which to fit a table. Nothing new will fit. Everything these days is so huge! I was resigned to the idea that I was going to have to build a table to fit there. That was discouraging because I have very little time these days and it would probably have been summer before I could have done it. While out and looking for chairs for my dining room, I happened upon this little table. I whipped out my measuring tape and jumped up and down in the middle of the store! It FIT!!!! Even more important...I no longer had to build it!

It's a bit rough, but it's sturdy and cute. Of course I couldn't leave it like that though. I sanded the sucker down and got to painting, which is apparently how I live my life ;)

I know it's difficult to tell, but this paint color is actually a super pale olive green. It never looks that way in pictures, but you can tell in person. Pale olive is the base.

Then I striped it with a pale blue

Finally you can see the olive a bit.

It fits wonderfully in its home between the ugly monstrosity and the couch. Another project on my checklist that can be checked off. It feels oh soooo good!

Something I Adore

Every once in a while I run into a piece of furniture that I just love! There are no reasons, I have no clue where I would put it or what I would use it for, but it appeals to me. Does this ever happen to you? I'm the same way with fabric. I could literally have an entire room full of fabrics I love that I have absolutely no use for. I'm THAT girl! Anywho...back to my furniture love. I have walked by this piece at one of my favorite shops for a few years now. I always stop and look at the piece, pull out the drawers, and become completely mesmerized by it. I finally decided that I had to have some pictures of it even though I will probably never buy it or have a place for it - it honestly just fascinates me.

I think it is just fabulous!!!

The detail is incredible to me. The burned in numbers and cute knobs.

Mostly I love all the little drawers. They make me curious and I just want to put stuff in them!

I find this just awesome. So even though I will probably never own it, I now can look at all these pictures over and over and love it from home as well as when I'm at the shop.

Bringing it all together

I inherited this sewing machine cabinet from my granny back when I was a little girl. It was a strange shade of olive green and had an antiquing wash put over it. I lived with it that way from about 5th grade until I was a freshman in high school. Looking back now the color was really pretty, but at the time I was wanting whites and lightness. I must also disclose that this was 1994 and crackle paint was all the rage. I decided to do my first furniture makeover. I stripped off all that old thick olive green paint and glaze and sprayed it with gold spray paint. Then I used a flat white crackle paint all over. It was cute and it has been that way until now. Crackle paint and gold weren't really the direction I wanted to go in my master bedroom which is cream, gray, and a robins egg color. So it was once again time to paint it. This is what I have ended up with in my space and I couldn't be more thrilled!

This is a frame that has been about 4 different colors and used for different purposes in my home for a couple of years now. I think it just may have found it's permanent home this time!

I just love the detail on this frame, I think it is so pretty!

I kept the original hardware on the cabinet. Some things are just too lovely to replace, and I ADORE the detail...

Some pearls spilling out of a Lennox bowl given to me by my husbands grandmother make this sentimental from all sides. That just makes me smile.

As well as an old watch that belonged to my granny and a matchbook from a store where she shopped for my grandaddy.

I adore books and these are extra special because they were my fathers. I took them out of his bookcase a few years ago and he was kind enough to go ahead and let me have them.

Shakespeare and Sherlock Holmes were the absolute perfect addition to this setting. I love that they were well used. I love the detail on the books and the texture they have. These are just a few of my favorite things that I've brought into our master. They have such value for me and I take a trip down memory lane whenever I look at the newly painted cabinet and all the things I love that remind me of all the people I love even more. It makes me realize that I am finally bringing it all together, and that is EXACTLY what I wanted.
